I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your letters No 871 and 1017 of the 1. and 30th ultimo, transmitting a translation expression of the probable effect of the Draft Trade Regulations for the Annam Frontier, jointly determined on by China and France, and inviting this Chamber's opinion of this Convention as regards the interest of this Colony. The subject was discussed at a meeting held yesterday, and I beg to call the attention of His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government, to the following provisions of the Convention, which in the opinion of the Committee, are likely to affect British interest.
